Dane Mizutani: Who cares who the Vikings start at quarterback? It doesn’t matter.

Published Wed, 12 Feb 2025 09:13:58 GMT

Each time the Vikings have walked off the field over the past month, they have done so without any idea as to who was going to start at quarterback the following week. Was it going to be the journeyman Josh Dobbs? Was it going to be the gunslinger Nick Mullens? Was it going to be the rookie Jaren Hall? This is the life of being forced to rely on a backup. There usually aren’t many good options. That’s been painstakingly obvious over the past month and a half, as the Vikings have benched Dobbs in favor of Mullens, and benched Mullens in favor of Hall. Naturally, the trend continued on New Year’s Eve, as the Vikings benched Hall in favor of Mullens on their way to an embarrassing 33-10 loss at the hands of the Green Bay Packers.Asked who the Vikings would start at quarterback against the Detroit Lions, head coach Kevin O’Connell even left the door open for benching Mullens in favor of Dobbs. Why not? Might as well bring things full circle in what could very well b...

Editor’s note: The opinions of the smart, well-read women in my Denver book club mean a lot, and often determine what the rest of us choose to pile onto our bedside tables. So we asked them, and other readers, to share these mini-reviews with you. Have any to offer? Email [email protected].“Study for Obedience,” by Sarah Bernstein (Knopf Canada, 2023)“Study for Obedience,” by Sarah Bernstein (Knopf Canada, 2023)A very accommodating (doormat?) woman moves to a remote, foreign village (where she doesn’t speak the language) to become her brother’s housekeeper and caretaker.  She immediately falls under suspicion for witchcraft or worse, as mysterious tragedies repeatedly befall the villagers’ animals and livestock shortly after her arrival. The entire novel is written as an interior monologue from the isolated sister’s point of view. But her lack of understanding, both literally and figuratively, as to the truth of her circumstances leaves at least thi...

A Colorado parole board hearing for Vinchenzo Moscoso, the 30-year-old accused of stabbing two people to death in northwest Denver in September, shows state officials went against a parole officer’s recommendations to revoke Moscoso’s parole and allowed him to be released from jail despite concerns that he was a safety risk to the community. The state’s parole division recommended revoking Moscoso’s parole because his history of drunken driving made him a public safety risk, according to a recording of the October 2022 hearing obtained through the Colorado Open Records Act.Instead, the parole board ordered Moscoso’s parole be continued, and he was released from the Jefferson County Jail on March 29.Moscoso is accused of first-degree murder in the deaths of Fidel Sanchez-Banuelos, 51, and Judith Corcoran, 83, on Sept. 14.Moscoso boarded a Regional Transportation District bus just after 5 a.m. in the 3200 block of North Federal Boulevard and began stabbing...
