SANTA CLARA — Brandon Aiyuk, in yet another example of his maturation into a marquee 49er, is not sulking.Yes, Trey Lance was one of his closest friends on the 49ers. Yes, it’s jarring to see Lance traded after just two seasons with the 49ers, and to the NFC rival Dallas Cowboys, no less.“But I understand how it goes,” AIyuk said Monday. “And I understand the competitor he is. So he wants to compete and show who he is to himself and to the world.”Aiyuk was with Lance after Friday’s trade went down, and again Sunday. So how is Lance, who’s yet to speak on the trade that sent a fourth-round draft pick to the 49ers in exchange for Lance?“Some weight was lifted off him, it looked like to me. I think he’s in a good spot,” Aiyuk responded.San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance (5) looks on from the bench in the fourth quarter of an NFL preseason game against the Denver Broncos at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., ...In-N-Out stabbing suspect identified and arrested

(BCN) -- The officer who was fired for shooting and killing a man during George Floyd protests in Vallejo in 2020 could be getting his job back after prevailing in arbitration. Michael Rains, attorney for the Vallejo Police Officers' Association, said that "several credible sources" have told him that Detective Jarrett Tonn's termination has been overturned in arbitration. Tonn was dismissed from the Vallejo force after he shot Sean Monterrosa, 22, of San Francisco, outside of a Walgreens store on Redwood Street during the early morning hours of June 2, 2020. The Vallejo Police Department has not commented on whether Tonn will return. Tonn and two other officers were responding to alleged reports of looting at the store in an unmarked pickup truck. Body camera footage shows Tonn, who is seated in the backseat of the vehicle, stick an AR-15-style assault rifle in between the two officers and fire five times through the windshield at Monterrosa as the police vehicle approache...Several US Open players are making comebacks from retirement, pregnancy or injury

NEW YORK (AP) — Comebacks are nothing new in tennis. There’s quite a history of that sort of thing, including by stars such as Martina Navratilova, John McEnroe, Martina Hingis, Bjorn Borg, Kim Clijsters and Andy Murray.Perhaps that’s why so many fans of Serena Williams hold out hope she’ll return after playing her last match a year ago at the U.S. Open.Williams recently gave birth to her second child, so she will not be at Flushing Meadows, but this year’s tournament features several players who left the tour for a significant amount of time and now are back. The Day 1 schedule included Ajla Tomljanovic — who beat Williams in the 23-time Grand Slam champion’s farewell contest last September but has been sidelined by injury since November — and 2021 Australian Open finalist Jennifer Brady (injury), a winner in the afternoon. Then 2016 Wimbledon runner-up Milos Raonic (injured) and 2018 Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki (retirement) were scheduled to appear at Louis Armstro...Bryce Harper won’t make pitch for Shohei Ohtani to join Phillies in free agency

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Bryce Harper and Shohei Ohtani each boast MVP and Rookie of the Year awards along with multiple All-Star Games, two of baseball’s preeminent faces.Oh, Harper and Ohtani are also linked in a rather calamitous way: Each have torn ligaments in their right elbow.Ohtani has sustained the injury twice, actually, and the latest has sidelined him from pitching for the Los Angeles Angels for the rest of the season. Harper returned to the NL champion Philadelphia Phillies lineup in May — 160 days after Tommy John surgery on his right elbow.Harper and Ohtani were both in the starting lineup Monday night in the opener of a three-game series. But Ohtani’s injury denied the pitcher-hitter showdown against Harper — MVP vs. MVP — Philly fans hoped for in the weeks leading into the series. One of those fans? Harper.“I think we were all looking forward to it because he’s one of the best is the game, on that mound and in the batter’s box, as well,” Harper sai...FinVolution: Q2 Earnings Snapshot

ATLANTA (AP) — Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows took the witness stand at a hearing Monday to deny two of the allegations made against him in a Georgia indictment accusing him of participating in an illegal scheme to overturn the 2020 election.Meadows, who was charged this month along with former President Donald Trump and 17 other people, is seeking to fight the charges in federal court rather than in state court. As part of that effort, he testified that he never asked White House personnel officer John McEntee to draft a memo to Vice President Mike Pence on how to delay certification of the election.“When this came out in the indictment, it was the biggest surprise for me,” Meadows said Monday. He later said, “Me asking Johnny McEntee for this kind of a memo just didn’t happen.”He also said he did not text the Georgia secretary of state’s office chief investigator, Frances Watson, as the indictment alleged. CHICAGO (AP) — A shooting that wounded two women at Friday night’s Chicago White Sox-Oakland Athletics game most likely involved a gun that went off inside Guaranteed Rate Field, Chicago’s interim police superintendent said Monday.Officials have said little about where the bullets came from, or if someone brought a gun into the stadium, but Fred Waller, interim superintendent of Chicago Police Department, said Monday that investigators have nearly ruled out the possibility that the shots came from outside the ballpark, the Chicago Tribune reported.“We’re dispelling a lot of things,” Waller said during a brief media availability. “(A shot) coming from outside is something we’ve almost completely dispelled. We’re still looking at every avenue. It’s still under investigation. Something from inside, it could’ve happened that way. We’re looking at every avenue, exploring every lead and everything that we can get.”A spokesperson for Major League Baseball declined comment Monda...Latest news
