(CNN) — Artist Salvatore Del Deo and his family are back in the dune shack they’ve occupied and cared for on Cape Cod National Seashore for nearly 80 years. An agreement has been reached with the National Park Service after the artist, 95, was evicted from the historic shack this summer, according to his son Romolo Del Deo, who spoke to CNN about the deal.Through lawyers acting pro bono on behalf of the Del Deo family with cooperation from the Department of the Interior (DOI), the Del Deos now have five more years in the shack through a special use permit under which they will pay rent and take care of the structure. The negotiations butted up against what looked like an imminent federal government shutdown, Romolo Del Deo said, and the DOI and National Park Service rangers “worked very proactively to, in a matter of a few days, wrap everything up, restore our ability to get into the shack … literally right up to the wire of when the government was potentially shutting down.”“It ...Chief Asks Holyoke Residents To Report Gunfire

Police officials in Holyoke made a push Wednesday to get citizens to call 911 when they hear gunshots, pointing to data that shows only about 12 percent of potential shooting incidents picked up by a new surveillance system were reported by residents. There were 117 activations of the ShotSpotter gunfire detection technology that Holyoke deployed across about two square miles in the first six months it was in use, from March through August, according to monthly reports made available by the police department. The system, which includes microphones that detect and triangulate the location of potential gunfire, detected a cumulative 454 rounds fired but Holyoke Police Chief David Pratt said the city got only 14 calls to 911 reporting those potential shootings.“That’s the one that has us saying we need to get the word out to the public. And we totally understand why people do not call or are hesitant to call in these instances. But we need your help. The Bruins continued to pare down their training camp roster, but some key roster battles are still to be officially determined. The B’s placed Jayson Megna on waivers for the purpose of assignment while Trevor Kuntar, Marc McLaughlin and Georgii Merkulov were assigned to Providence. But there are still so many questions.Matt Poitras, 19, is still with the big club, which is not a surprise given his performance thus far, which included the game-tying goal in the B’s 5-4 preseason loss to the Washington Capitals on Tuesday. If he doesn’t make the big club, the teenager would have to be sent back to his junior club in Guelph. But as of now it would be a stunner if the B’s didn’t at least utilize the nine-game window before they have to make a final decision on him.If the highly skilled Poitras can prove that he’s ready for the physical grind of the NHL, that could create a fairly major ripple effect up and down the lineup. It would seem useless not to...Latest news
