California air regulators on Friday approved first-in-the-nation rules to ban the sale of new diesel big rig trucks statewide by 2036.The rules approved unanimously by the California Air Resources Board also require companies in California with more than 50 trucks to convert their truck fleets to zero-emission vehicles by 2042.The historic vote to require new trucks to run on electricity or hydrogen fuel cells — sending diesel the way of leaded gasoline — is the latest step in the slow, but steady phase-out of fossil fuels in California, designed to reduce smog and greenhouse gases that are causing climate change. Last year, the air board, most of whose 16 members are appointed by Gov. Gavin Newsom, voted to prohibit the sale of new gasoline-burning passenger vehicles in California in 2035.“This is an absolutely transformative rule to clean our air and mitigate climate change,” said Liane Randolph, chair of the board.Industry groups opposed the rules and said...Four-bedroom home sells for $2.9 million in Los Gatos

With the fentanyl crisis reaching epidemic proportions, a renewed push in the Bay Area seeks to stem the steady supply of a deadly drug that has wreaked havoc across the country. On Friday, Gov. Gavin Newsom officially tasked a cadre of California National Guard and California Highway Patrol officials to fight the rampant rise of fentanyl in San Francisco. Now, leaders from Northern California’s largest city say they, too, would welcome state help.“The enforcement side is incredibly important,” San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan said in an interview. “We are really understaffed. So do we need more help there? Yes.”In San Jose, 96 accidental overdose deaths were attributed to fentanyl in 2022, according to data from the Santa Clara County Coroner dashboard. Before Tucker Carlson’s shocking ouster from Fox News Monday, observers sometimes said he owed his massive success on the network and in America’s extreme right-wing circles to his unique ability to be shamelessly provocative.A 2022 New York Times profile of Carlson described his on-air technique as “gleefully courting blowback” for touting racist, white nationalist views or for being one of the “most visible and voluble defenders of those who violently stormed the U.S. Capitol to keep Donald Trump in office.” The more Carlson doubled-down at Fox, the more his millions of nightly viewers embraced him as an “aggrieved” partner in their perceived “victimhood,” the Times said.In interviews over the past few years, Carlson has suggested that he developed his extremely thick skin for cable news success because of his mother — or rather, because of the terrible thing his mother, former San Francisco socialite-turned-artist Lisa McNear Lombardi, did to him as a 6-year-old.“I b...Bitstarz Bonus Codes: 5 BTC Welcome Bonus, Free Spins, No Deposit Bonus, and More

MIAMI (AP) — Jimmy Butler is different. Some players hit beaches over All-Star break; Butler went to Argentina to watch tennis and learn about coffee. Some players rest with one day off between games; Butler spent 10 hours flying round-trip to be at Pau Gasol’s Los Angeles Lakers jersey retirement one night and back in Miami for shootaround the next morning. Some Miami teammates jumped around the locker room to celebrate after eliminating top-seeded Milwaukee; Butler simply watched while sipping a drink. He does things his way, which is not a bad thing — and the results prove it. Butler has led Miami to the Eastern Conference semifinals for the third time in his four seasons with the Heat; this year, a matchup with the New York Knicks awaits, starting Sunday.“He puts his soul into competing,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “When you put that much physical, mental, emotional and spiritual energy into that will to win, that is so unique.
