By Holmes Lybrand | CNNThe Justice Department’s Office of the Inspector General on Tuesday issued a scathing rebuke of the Bureau of Prisons detailing the multiple failures that led to the death of high-profile financier Jeffrey Epstein following his arrest in 2019 but found no evidence to contradict the “absence of criminality” in his death.According to the report, the failures that allowed Epstein time to die by suicide in his cell included multiple prison employees failing to conduct rounds and cell searches to check on Epstein, his access to extra bed linens – which he used to hang himself – and failure to assign Epstein a fellow inmate after he was placed on suicide watch. The OIG, however, did not find evidence “that contradicted the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) determination regarding the absence of criminality in connection with how Epstein died,” according to the report.“All (prison) staff members who were interviewed by the OIG said they did not know of any infor...Supreme Court clarifies when online harassment can be prosecuted

By Ariane de Vogue | CNN Supreme Court ReporterThe Supreme Court on Tuesday wiped away a lower court decision upholding the stalking conviction of a Colorado man who sent hundreds of messages to a woman over Facebook. The justices said the court had used the wrong standard in convicting the man and sent the case back down with a new test to apply to the case. The justices said it would suffice for prosecutors to show that the speaker was aware that his speech could be viewed as a threat and that the speech was reckless, even if not intentionally threatening.Related ArticlesCrime and Public Safety | Supreme Court rejects controversial Trump-backed election law theory Crime and Public Safety | One year post-Roe: California abortion advocates forge ahead to protect access Crime and Public Safety | Supreme Court upholds law used to prosecute Northern California man who encouraged illegal immigration Crime and Public Safety | Coin...After a far-right victory in German county, a man in neo-Nazi clothing hands balloons to children

The phrase is a play on words that roughly translates as “Who’s going to join again?”The man is also wearing red, white and black shorts — colors that are usually associated with the German Reich — as he takes blue balloons from his car and hands them to excited children on the other side of a fence. The car bears the words “volunteer deportation helper” on the back, and one of the balloons in the car appears...Hombre habría intentado secuestrar a un niño de un área de juegos en Silver Spring

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — This rookie class of tight ends already made quite an impact on the draft. They’ll have to buck history if they’re going to leave the same type of impression on the field this year. Tight end arguably is the toughest position for rookies to make huge contributions.Detroit Lions coach Matt Campbell, who played tight end in the NFL from 1999-2008, understands why.“I always make this argument: Besides the quarterback, the tight ends have to know more than anybody else offensively,” said Campbell, who played for the New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys and Lions. “You’ve got to know it all.”Campbell has high hopes for Sam LaPorta, the tight end Detroit drafted out of Iowa in the second round. LaPorta was one of nine tight ends selected in the first three rounds of the recent draft, the highest total since the common draft era began in 1967.The others are Buffalo’s Dalton Kincaid (formerly at Utah), Las Vegas’ Michael Mayer (Notre Dame), Green Bay’s Luke Musgrave (Oregon...La Corte Suprema limita el poder de los estados en la organización de elecciones federales

STRASBOURG, France (AP) — Veteran coach Frederic Antonetti and French league club Strasbourg parted ways Tuesday ahead of the new season following the arrival of new American investors. The 61-year-old Antonetti was hired in February and helped the team remain in the top flight with six wins and four draws in his 15 league matches in charge.“Frederic had a mission, and he accomplished it perfectly,” Strasbourg president Marc Keller said. “But it’s the start of a new cycle and I’m convinced it’s better to stop on that good note.”Antonetti’s departure comes in the wake of an agreement between the club and BlueCo, the consortium which purchased Chelsea last year.“A new era is dawning with the arrival of new investors who will provide the club with new resources,” Antonetti said. “In this fast-changing Ligue 1, which is undergoing profound upheavals, I wish them every success. The people of Strasbourg deserve it.”Strasbourg won its only French league title in 1979...“No hay pruebas suficientes”: acusada de balear a muerte a su vecina no enfrentará cargos de asesinato

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Attorneys for Gov. Ron DeSantis, a state agency and his appointees to a revamped board that governs Disney World are asking a judge to dismiss a federal lawsuit in which Disney claims its free speech rights were violated by the takeover of its governing district. The lawsuit states this happened in retaliation for Disney’s opposition to the so-called “Don’t Say Gay” legislation championed by the Florida governor.Attorneys for DeSantis, the secretary of the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity and the DeSantis appointees to the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District filed motions Monday asking that Disney’s lawsuit in federal court in Tallahassee either be dismissed, put on hold or that they be dropped as defendants. The federal court lacks jurisdiction over the Republican governor and the state agency’s secretary, who are immune to the lawsuit, and the governor and secretary don’t enforce any of the laws at issue so Disney ...Latest news
